JAMES "JIM" BUTLER
James “Jim” Butler 81 of Mt. Nebo WV passed away on
February 27, 2018 after a short illness. Jim was born in
Columbus Ohio on May 31st, 1936 to the late Fred and
Ethel Butler. Also preceding him in death were his
brothers John and Fred as well as his sister Helen.
Jim graduated from Nicholas County High School in
1954. He was an Air Force Veteran where he was
stationed in Alaska. He was a proud graduate from West
Virginia University with a degree in forestry. He had a love
for trees, flowers and nature. His lawn always reflected
that. He was in the Forest Service when he lived in
California but couldn’t stay away from West Virginia. He
was a school teacher, principal, surveyor, landscaper and
a retired forester.
He was a dear friend to many, a good neighbor,
faithful Christian, wonderful father and loving husband. He
enjoyed working in his yard, wood working, long walks,
fishing, talking to and meeting people. He loved life and
his family. Jim and his wife Rose, the true love of his life
were married 62 years. He was a very kind, giving and
loving man with a great sense of humor. He will be missed
always by his family and friends.
Surviving Jim are his wife Rose, four daughters,
Ginger(Roger) McQueen, Kim (Darrell) Spencer, Robin (T.
J.) Gregory all of Mt. Nebo and Shannon (Jack) Massey of
Milton WV, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, with
one on the way and also his twin sister Jane “Sue” Smyth.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday,
March 10th at the Gilgal United Methodist Church in Mt.
Nebo, WV with Pastor Rick Swearengin officiating. White
