LOUIS WILLIAM GROVES JR, MD
Dr. Louis Groves passed away 2-27-17, peacefully at
his home in Summersville, WV. Born in Richwood, he
was the oldest son of Louis William Sr. and Mary Woods
Groves of Nicholas and Webster counties. He is survived
by his wife Ruth Hanna Groves, daughters Martha and
Leanora, step children Michael, Susan, Daniel, Jane,
Mary Beth and Catherine. Also his brothers Aaron and
wife Frances; Franklin and wife Ruth; nieces Missy and
Kristi, and nephew Todd.
Louis was an honor graduate of Meadow Bridge High
School and after four years undergraduate school at
West Virginia University and he was in the first four year
graduating class of the WVU medical school. He began
general family practice with “young” Doctor Edward
Echols in Richwood and later opened his own Clinic there.
In his early career he was very active in rural WV
medicine and was once President of the WV medical
association. He practiced a few years in North Dakota,
Texas, and Colorado. He returned to his love of rural
medicine, first at Richwood and then in Summersville.
His patient’s cherished the country setting of his office
and personal service. He practiced medicine until his
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday,
March 4, 2017 at the White Funeral Home at
Summersville with Dr. Ken Ramsey officiating. Interment
will follow in the Hanna Farm Cemetery. Friends may call
at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
