AUDRA A. DEITZ
Audra Adelaid Deitz, 79, of Mt. Lookout, WV passed away on
Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the CAMC-Memorial Division
Hospital at Charleston. Born January 11, 1938 at Mt. Lookout,
she was a daughter of the late Dewey Earl and Bertha Ann Evans
Deitz. She was also preceded in death by three brothers,
Emmitt, Charles, and Gerald Deitz and by two sisters, Lucille
Frazier and Freda Smith, three nephews, Larry Deitz, James
Nelson Deitz, and Wayne Deitz; and by one niece, Barbara
Audra Deitz was a proud life-long resident of Nicholas County,
WV. She was a 1956 graduate of Nicholas County High School
who started working for the County Clerk’s Office one week
before her high school graduation on May 15, 1956.
Audra worked in the Clerk’s Office as a Deputy Clerk until 1989
when she was promoted to Chief Deputy. She maintained that
position until May 29, 2012 when Wanda Hendrickson, the
County Clerk at the time passed away. Upon Wanda’s passing,
the Nicholas County Commission appointed Audra to fill the
position of County Clerk until a candidate could be selected to
run on the ballot by the County Democratic Executive Committee.
Shortly after Audra was appointed to the position of County
Clerk, the Democratic Executive Committee asked her to run for
the unexpired term for Nicholas County Clerk. Audra accepted
the invitation and ran unopposed for the position of Nicholas
During her tenure, Audra has had the privilege of working for
five previous county clerks. She was dedicated, hard-working
and humble as is evident by her own words. When asked about
her career she responded, “I count it an honor to serve the voters
of Nicholas County for my time in the Clerk’s Office.”
Upon her retirement Audra served in the Nicholas County Clerk’
s office for a total of 60 years, 7 months, and 16 days.
Surviving are four nieces and nephews, Rex (Pam) Deitz,
Bruce (Kathy) Deitz, Beverly (Ted) Baber, and Connie (Bryan)
Mace and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October
9, 2017 in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor
Ryan Trescott officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant
Church Cemetery at Mt. Lookout.

m. until time of services.
