SIDNEY E. VALENTINE, SR.
Sidney E. Valentine, Sr., 77, of Sebring, FL, formerly of
Summersville, WV went to be with our Lord on Tuesday,
June 21, 2016. Born March 28, 1939 at Cannelton, WV, he
was a son of the late Sidney Marshall and Beulah Bradley
Valentine. He was also preceded in death by his sister and
brother-in-law, Millie and Pete Tench, and by a
granddaughter, Amber Bailes.
He was a coal miner at Cannelton Coal Company for 14
years. In 1971 he became a MSHA inspector until he
retired in 1994. He was a member of the Grace Baptist
Church in Sebring, FL and of the AF&AM #76 lodge in
Summersville. While in Summersville, Sidney served on the
Summersville City Council. During his time on the council
he was most proud of his involvement in the Summersville
Senior Center, purchase of the Brown House, Muddlety
Trail Project and Hyro Electric Plant projects, all of which
are still operational today. He was honored during his time
on, and following service to the council to have two streets
named for him.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth O’Dell
Valentine; his children, Millie and Tom Bailes, Annie and
Joe Groves, Susie and Joe Vessels, Sherrie and Danny
Moul, and Sidney and Mandy Valentine, Jr.; three
grandsons, seven granddaughters, four great grandsons,
seven great granddaughters and many, many friends who
loved him dearly.
Sid never knew a stranger and was most proud of his
family, their accomplishments and all that they have
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday,
June 26, 2016 in the White Funeral Home at Summersville
with Pastor Mark Secrist officiating. Entombment will follow
in the Highlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum at Oak Hill.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from
noon until time of services.
