LENA M. GROVES
Lena Marguerite Groves, 91, of Nettie, WV passed away
with her family by her side on Saturday, October 29, 2016
at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. Born April
19, 1925 at Richwood, she was a daughter of the late
George and Naomi Grose Pittsenbarger. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, David Hugh Groves in
2012 and a brother, George Given Pittsenbarger.
She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist
Church at Nettie for over sixty years. She had served as
a youth leader and officer in the United Methodist
Women. Lena served on many committees at the church,
was one of the founders of Mt. Zion Church, sang alto in
the choir, and was one of the chief cooks who was known
for her apple dumplings. She and her late husband,
Dave, were active in the District Conference of the United
Methodist Church. She was also the former
owner/operator of Groves Store at Nettie and past owner
of D and L Construction at Nettie.
Survivors include brothers- and sisters-in-law,
Raymond of Craigsville, Sylvia Amick of Leivasy, Herbert
of Nettie, Imajean Price of Summersville, and Kenneth
and Joy of Nettie. She is also survived by many nieces,
nephews, and cousins from the extended Groves and
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
November 1, 2016 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist
Church at Nettie with Pastors Paul Mateer and Harold
Duskey officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview
Cemetery at Nettie under the direction of the White
Funeral Home at Summersville.
Friends may call at the church on Tuesday one hour
prior to the funeral services.
Many thanks to the staff at Edgewood Summit’s
Ridgemont and Hodges Center and Hubbard Hospice
House for the excellent care provided to Lena over the
past few months.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be
